New Facebook Features You Need to Know

January 16, 2018

Facebook constantly changes and evolves, adapting to its users’ needs and new technologies. They keep adding more features and apps.

Trying to keep up with the changes can be time-consuming!

Luckily for you, we here at Blue Lilac Marketing track these changes and enjoy sharing them with our readers.

Create Polls

Have you ever wanted to know what your Facebook fans/followers think of your new product or service, what items you should put on sale in your store, or maybe what your chef should add to the menu for this season? This new Facebook tool allows you to publish tow option polls, with a photo or GIF to accompany each option.

Here’s how you can create a poll:

  • Go to the status update composer and choose “Polls”

  • Enter the question you want to ask in the status box section

  • Fill the options respondents will have to choose from

  • Choose an image or GIF for each option

  • Determine how long you want the poll to run – a day, a week, or any other custom length.

Got Fake News?

Fake news is a growing problem for social networks. Facebook has been criticized recently for allowing the spread of false stories. Their new feature will help them fight the fake new problem.

When looking at articles in your News Feed, you can use the new “Article Context” button by tapping on the button that has the letter ‘i’ on it. This button will open a small tab with additional contextual information regarding the article, such as:

  • Details about the publisher from their Wikipedia page

  • Examples of how the article is being shared on Facebook

  • Links to trending articles from other sources that cover the same topic.

This new Facebook features is supposed to help users evaluate the content they read on their News Feeds and decide which stories are worth reading and which ones should be ignored.

Subscribe to Your Favorite Newspaper

As a small business owner, you must stay up-to-date on what’s happening in your town, your industry, and in the world. Getting your news updates during the day from trusted sources is helpful.

To this end, Facebook has partnered with ten large news publishers to give its app users access to articles. During the trial, you can read 10 free articles from the Washington Post, The Economist, Bild, Le Parisian and other large publishers. After a user reads their allotted 10 free articles, the app will offer users to purchase a subscription through the publisher’s website. Currently, this feature is only available on Android devices only.

Are you ready to use these great new Facebook features to help grow your business?
