I thought I’d write about starting a YouTube Channel for business since I’m working on that for a client right now.
YouTube is another great social media channel that businesses can use to expand their reach and promote their brand.
Are you thinking about starting a YouTube channel? Well, put on your director’s hat and get ready to have your business be a star!
Set up your channel
This is the easy part. Just sign into YouTube and click on the user icon at the top right of the screen. Click on the gear icon to get to your account’s YouTube settings. Click on Create a New Channel and then choose “Use a business or other name.” Add your company name and click create.
Complete the About section
This part is very important. It’s how your followers will learn more about you and your brand.
Fill out your profile and channel description. This is the first option you’ll see after you created a channel.
Describe your business and what viewers can expect to see on your channel. Remember to add links to your website and other social media platforms.
Add your images
On a YouTube channel, you immediately see a large banner displaying the channel’s name. This is your cover photo and is prime real estate for promoting your brand. This is going to be the first impression a visitor gets. YouTube recommends your cover photo be 2560 x 1440 pixels with a maximum file size of 4MB.
Take some time to design an eye-catching cover photo. Make sure your logo is included in this image.
Know your audience
Did you know more than 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute? You’ve got a lot of competition!
Create content that is aimed at your target audience. Videos containing content that they want and need. Address their pain points and offer solutions.
What type of videos will your audience want? If your product requires training to use, video tutorials on how to use it would be appropriate.
Customer testimonial videos are a great way to show off customer reviews so you can share these too.
Upload your video
Once you’re done filming and editing your video, it’s time to upload it to YouTube. The upload option is at the top right of the screen when you log into your account.
Your video is now loaded, but you’re not done!
Optimize your video for searches
When you upload a video, you need to fill in a title, description, and tags. Completing these sections correctly is essential for being found in YouTube searches.
Use your keywords to optimize your video for search. Use your keywords to describe the video and your business. A keyword-rich title will also help with making your video more easily discoverable.
Be consistent
You won’t become a YouTube star overnight. Creating a successful YouTube channel takes time and effort and your viewers expect consistency.
Create a video content calendar so you have content to share. You don’t need to film a video a week. With your content calendar, you know your topics, so pick one day and film a bunch of videos. And you’ve got videos for a month or more.
Share your videos
Once your YouTube video is live, share it outside of YouTube. Share your video to all your social media platforms. Add the video to your website.
You can also blog about your video. Embed the video into your blog post and tell your readers what’s in it for them to watch your video. Will they learn something new?
Engage with viewers
Just like all social media, to build your following you must engage with your fans. Respond to comments, ask and answer questions, and most importantly, listen to them. They will tell you what they want!
Don’t forget the analytics
YouTube Analytics gives you insight on your viewers, which allows you to better target your audience. You can also see which videos are performing better than others. Now you know what your audience wants to see. Take time monthly to review your analytics and tweak what you are doing to get better results.
