Search engines want to give web searchers the best results. You have to follow their ‘rules’ for your website to rank high in their search engine results pages. You certainly want your website to appear on page one, not page 10!
Mobile-first
Earlier in 2018, Google announced the mobile-first index. What this means is if you have both a desktop and mobile version of your website, Google will check out the mobile one first when deciding how to rank your website in the search results. If you only have a desktop website, it can still be ranked, but because of the lack of a mobile site, it will be ranked in a lower position on the search engine results pages.
Google also ranks the loading speed of mobile sites. A fast loading mobile site means a higher search results ranking.
What to do
You could have the best website, but if you don’t have a mobile version, nobody will find your site in searches. Having a mobile website is so very important for your search rankings. Talk to your web developer about creating a mobile version of your site. It’s worth the investment. You could be missing out on a lot of website visitors without one!
