is networking? It’s the ability to expand your business and personal circle for the purpose of meeting people.

In reality, networking is about building new relationships with clients and colleagues that my lead to future collaborations and grow your business.

If you’re a business owner here are some tips on how to get your name out there.

Be visible

If people don’t know who you are and what you do, you can’t sell your products or services to them. Attending networking events are a great way to make meaningful connections.

At networking events, dress to impress. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Be professional but also be yourself with those you meet. Have a short elevator pitch prepared that is short, friendly, and to the point.

Carry business cards

You never know when and where you’ll meet potential clients. It could be at a networking event or in line at the grocery store. Carry your business cards with you at all times so you can take advantage of all networking opportunities.

Follow-up

If you made some great connections, follow-up with them. Connect with them on LinkedIn. Send an email and set up a time to meet for coffee. It’s a great way to continue the good conversations.

Network online

Yes, you can network online. Social media is a great tool that allows you to connect with many people at the same time for limited time and expense.

Just like at in-person networking events, think about how you would like to represent yourself on social media. Be friendly and approachable online and you’ll increase your connections.
