Blogging is important to grow your business. It sets you up as an expert in your industry. A blog associated with your website also increases your website’s visibility. And a blog keeps you in front of your customers and potential customers.

So, you know having a blog is essential to your business. But we’ve seen so many blogs that need help! Here are some common blogging blunders and ways to avoid them.

Don’t write for the sake of writing

The goal of your blog should be to educate your readers. Longer isn’t always better. Your article should be precise and short. 200 to 500 words is sufficient. Readers don’t want to spend a lot of time on your article.

Don’t have a so-so title

Your title is a way to catch your reader’s attention and make them want to read your blog.

Keep your title short – 65 characters or less so it shows up on mobile-friendly devices – and explanatory.

A great formula to create a killer title is:

Number/How/Why/What + Keyword + Adjective + Promise

Use this magic formula to kill it!

Don’t overestimate or underestimate your reader

Keep your content light and intelligent. Write in the ‘voice’ of your company. Don’t use industry jargon that some of your readers may not understand unless you define the terms for them.

Don’t publish without proofreading

You want your blog to reflect positively on you and your business. Spelling and grammar mistakes are not professional. Yes, sometimes an error makes its way in, but, overall, your blog should look as professional as possible.

So before you publish it, make sure you’ve reread it, checked it for spelling and grammar errors, and that the content is easily understood.

Consider having a second set of eyes review it for you before you publish.

Don’t share your blog

So you’ve written a great blog. Now what? Sharing is caring.

Post it on your website. Share it on your social media platforms. Include a link to your blog in your email signature. Guest blog and use one of the blogs you’ve already written.

You can even use your blogs as newsletter articles. Just share your blogs everywhere!
